Vitamin D has appeared in studies that show relief of psoroiasis. Recently,
vitamin D has been given to people affected with psoriasis and improvement has
been noticed Fish, beef, dairy products and vegetables are sources of vitamin D.
Oily Fish-Oily fish such as salmon, halibut and snapper contain omega fatty acids
that help heal psoriasis.
Flaxseed--Flaxseed or flaxseed oil are also rich in the omega fatty acids. You can
take flaxseed oil by the spoonful or eat flaxseed on yogurt or in baked goods.
Cereal-Cereals have been seen to reduce psoriasis because they can be fortified
with folic acid. Folic acid has a healing effect on psoriasis.
Broccoli-is also high in folic acid, although in broccoli it is seen in its natural
state, folate.
Fiber-Make sure that you are eating a diet rich in fiber. Psoriasis can go into
remission faster when on a fiber-rich diet.
Vitamin in E.- These foods are claimed to alleviate the symptoms of psoriasis.
Examples of foods rich in this vitamin are sweet potato, spinach, almonds, wheat
germ and sunflower seeds.
Omega 3 and Omega 6 Fatty Acids- To achieve good health, Omega 6 and omega
3 fatty acids should balance.. Food sources of omega 3 oils are fish oil, seeds
green leafy veg.
Drink bitter gourd juice-. Bitter gourd juice is said to be able to reduce the force
of an attack of psoriasis, especially when combined with lime juice.
FOODS TO AVOID
Psoriasis and Red Meat
Red meat is believed to aggravate psoriasis. Limit your red meat consumption
to once per week or less.Animal fats are especially damaging to people with
psoriasis. Avoid any type of animal fat and hydrogenated fats including fat
from pork (sausage, ham, bacon, salami, bologna, pepperoni, hot dogs, canned
meats), veal and beef (grain-fed). In addition, avoid certain fish products
including catfish, grouper, salmon, king mackerel, swordfish, shark and solid
white tuna.
Psoriasis and Dairy
Dairy products can aggravate psoriasis in many individuals by interfering with
digestion and decreasing immune function. Don't consume large amounts of
milk, cheese or yogurt This means not only plain dairy products themselves but
also items such as cakes, chocolate and ice cream.
Caffeine-Based Drinks & Fruits
Avoid caffeine-based drinks like teas, sodas and coffee completely. Citrus fruits,
syrup-packed canned fruit, unripe and overripe fruit, jams and jellies, syrups and
sweetened fruit drinks should also be avoided.
Citrus fruits are also known to trigger psoriasis, so they should be avoided as
much as possible.
Alcohol, coffee, certain sauces (especially spicy ones), tomato juice and canola
or vegetable oil can trigger episodes of psoriasis in certain people, so it is
important to pay attention after consuming these foods to see the effect they
cause to the body.
Spices can also be damaging to the body, especially the hot ones or the ones
based on nuts or citrus. Examples include pepper, hot sauce, gravies, vinegar,
cumin, mustard and curry.
Other Foods to Avoid
Oils, including margarine, shortening, lard, hydrogenated oils, canola oil and
vegetable oils should also be avoided. Stay away from fried foods, MSG, sugar,
corn syrup, artificial coloring, preservatives, artificial flavoring, soy sauce and all
artificial sweeteners.
